And here we are in August!

Its been a few days since the last update. I'm not quite as far along as I'd like, but close - and making steady progress. The preliminary pencils for the Zo'ora illustration (the LAST illustration for the book!) are done. That was delayed a bit by slow feedback from the Tekumel Foundation; this is another creature for which no previous illustration was ever published (afaik), and the text description in the Gardasiyal Bestiary was a bit vague. I'm still working my way through the Skill section. After that:

    Contacts: light editing for clarity
    Foreign & Nonhuman Character Generation: editing, possibly heavy
    Equipment: small, scattered edits
    Combat: editing for organization & clarity
    Sorcery: I'll re-read it one last time, but I think it's done
    Bestiary: I have to add a handful of creatures whose illos got unlocked as stretch goals during the Kickstarter
    Treasure & Magic Items: final read-through, I have some concerns about the selling prices of magic items but otherwise finished
    Rank & Promotion: final review
    Income & Expenditure: final review
    Appendix: waiting for final approval of Alyssa Faden's Katalal map from the Foundation
    Random Encounter Table: re-do to add the new creatures
    Table of Contents & Chapter Headings
    See References
    Insert Illustrations

... and then it'll be done. I think this will all take a week or two.

My plan is to immediately make the PDF available to all qualifying backers the moment it's done. At the same time, it will be submitted to the Tekumel Foundation for approval. Printing will begin as soon as approval is received, and shipping will occur once the books are delivered.

Whew! Its been a long, hard, and wonderfully rewarding challenge so far. The finish line is in sight... get ready!

This completes the interior artwork for Bethorm: the Plane of Tekumel RPG. I can hardly believe it. Whew!

From this point on, I'll be focused entirely on completing the editing and page layouts. That finish line is getting nearer!

Last night I completed the editing on the skills section. Today, I'm reviewing the list of random Tsolyani names for accuracy and accent marks.

Yesterday I did a complete overhaul of the random name lists. At first I thought I only needed to fix a few missing accent marks, but on closer examination I began to doubt the accuracy of the source I'd used to compile the names in the first place. So I threw it all out, and went with an official published source - which incidentally provided all the necessary accent marks too 🙂 The new lists are finished, and have been added to the document, along with a very basic pronunciation guide (accent marks and vowel sounds).

Next task: Contacts. The Pocket Universe system for purchasing contacts is complete and has been heavily tested, but I need to make one final pass to make sure that its been properly re-tooled to work with Tsolyani clan status and family structures.

The Contacts section is complete. I'm now doing a final pass on the character creation rules adjustments for out of town, foreign, and nonhuman characters.

Tonight I had a Skype conference with the Tekumel Foundation, regarding the Katalal map. It went great; I'm going to add a small number of additional locations to the map.

On the editing front, I'm working on the table of contents and integrating the foreign & nonhuman character generation rules a bit more. Also, I've begun processing all of the artwork (well over 120 illustrations now!) for inclusion into the book.

Yesterday I continued with the huge task of prepping all the illustrations. Gotta trim 'em down (there's a lot of white space around them, as needed for the art prints), convert 'em to .bmps (they're currently .jpgs for DeviantArt, and .pdfs for the printer), and scale 'em to 1 or 2 columns wide (I'm making both 1 and 2 column versions of most of 'em, since I won't know my precise needs til I start slotting them into the manuscript - and doing both sizes systematically in advance will save time).

I also brought in a Tekumel timeline that my partner Talzhemir was kind enough to compile for me (this involved a copy/paste and then a bunch of fiddling with the font styles).

Backer surveys will go out soon!
